How many emails will an inbox hold before it finally explodes?

Answer: 473,922.1

APRIL FOOL!

But seriously, my desktop email client, Mac Mail, has 1,052 unread emails in the inbox and 2,221 in the junk folder.

Including those in the inbox I’ve opened and read, but not deleted, I guess the grand total would be (gulp…) 8,000!

Time to start spring-cleaning…

(Apologies for the nostalgic image; my very first Mac was an iMac, shaped just like that.)

As far as I believe now most of the big email sites now have more space than most people would need. I use GoDaddy. They have some good / secure email options etc (but you have to pay).

Thanks, Eamon. I think I need to learn to delete as I go, or delete weekly or monthly to keep on top of the backlog!

Beth, Thank you so much!!!

In my crystal ball, I see a coton de tulear (great name!) here at Thistletonthwaite Castle in the not TOO distant future! :)

Mary: My computer keeps giving me "memory is low" warnings! As soon as this semester is over - time for some serious computer cleaning.

I bet loads of the mails are CC (which in most cases means the person wasn't sure whether they should CC you or not but just in case .. and C'd you: Delete ..).

Josephine: Low memory warnings are serious!!! My first Mac met an untimely death after I simply ignored the warnings. You’re right to clean it up ASAP!

Eamon: I’ve deleted about 1,000 so far; including lots of CCs, annoying “out of office” memos, and newsletters (just how MANY do I subscribe to?).

As with any kind of clear-out, I’ve found things I’d forgotten that now seem oh… so… INTERESTING. Or maybe I’m just easily distracted!

Mary. You have to be ruthless with your email cull (seriously, though, I saw on the telly that email is becoming a stress problem for people - get rid of that stress: 'DELETE' ..).
