Plus Fours

A shocking first: I flopped down on the sofa last night and was thoroughly transfixed by ... golf! (I never watch golf!) It was the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, played at St. Andrews, Kingsbarn, and Carnoustie.

The leisurely strides of the players, the lovely green greens, the occasional blue sky. The talk was of birdies, eagles, and even an albatross. It was so relaxing to watch.

And the landscaping reminded me of Tellytubbyland:

Samuel L. Jackson was one of a handful of celebrity competitors, and I learnt that with each new film contract, he insists on a schedule that allows him two rounds of golf per week. Good for you, I thought. Perhaps I should take up golf.

I usually walk out of a room if sport is on the TV. That goes especially for cricket and football, but no longer applies to golf... gorgeous golf. Unless it’s not late at night, and definitely NOT if I have anything else to do. I say this in the hope that last night was not the start of a strange, new addiction. Anything but be addicted to golf! Who am I? ;)

My oldest son was terrified of teletubbies when he was little.

Travis - they are strange. The purple one is particularly creepy.

Eek! I always turn sport off - including Golf. :)

Cate - that's the sensible thing to do. :)

I miss the Teletubbies. So much more inspiring than those wretched Tweenies. And probably better at golf.

Whirlochre - unwatchable! It was obvious they weren’t really Tweenies at all, but failed golfers in costume. ;)

I am a failed golfer. My dad tried to teach me when I was a kid, but I was terrible at it. And he was not a patient teacher! Anyway, are you sure it wasn't Mr L. Jackson that was the attraction, rather than the golf itself?

As for scary Tellytubbies - have you seen In the Night Garden? It scares the bejesus out of me! I mean, what ARE those things? I think in fifteen or twenty years, young adults are going to be having nervous breakdowns as residual memories of those freakish not-quite-people come back to haunt them...

Stuart - there is nothing worse than being taught by a parent.

As for Mr L. Jackson: he is a wonderful golfer, but seems to have too many teeth! ;)

All I’ve seen of In the Night Garden is the little, blank-faced plush toys. They appear to have been inspired by the minimal, amoebic baby toys that are popular in northern Europe. But when more detail is added... the result is very, very strange.
